Want to go birdwatching in the Algarve? Embark on an ecotourism experience in the Ria Formosa aboard our comfortable catamaran.
Guided by a nature expert, this boat trip through the Ria Formosa will show you why this incredible place was chosen as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal. The Ria Formosa Natural Park is considered one of the most important wetlands in Europe for waterfowl. It's no wonder, therefore, that the diversity of birdlife is one of the highlights of any visit.
This birdwatching tour in the Ria Formosa gives these incredible animals the special attention they deserve. Join us for birdwatching in the Algarve and observe birds such as the white stork (Ciconia ciconia), the little egret (Egretta garzetta), and the white-spooned spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia).
Shorebirds are more abundant, especially during the winter, although birds such as the Common Sandpiper (Numenius phaeopus), the Common Spinetail (Arenaria interpres), and the Grey Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) are a constant presence. The journey continues towards the islands of the Natural Park, passing oyster and clam farms, one of the most important economic activities in the Algarve. Here, you can also observe interesting species such as the Common Sandpiper (Limosa limosa), the Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus), and many others.
On the way to where the lagoon meets the sea, we will stop for you to appreciate this little paradise. This is an important breeding area for the Little Tern (Sterna albifrons) and the Blue-ringed Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus). During the winter, it's common to see the red-billed tern (Sterna sandvicensis) and the great flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus).
On the return to Faro, you'll have many opportunities to observe other species as our boat slowly navigates the canals of this natural wonder. Birdwatching in Faro and the Algarve couldn't be more complete!
