Alandroal Nautical Station

The municipality's name comes from the large shrubs, alandros or aloendros, that dominate and color the landscape.

Along the Guadiana River, a land of borders and disputes, Alandroal assumed great historical importance in establishing a defensive line with Spain. Its three castles, Juromenha, Terena, and Alandroal, bear witness to this protective role with an imposing and surprising historical heritage in a territory of breathtaking horizons. The region is marked by the course of the Guadiana River, which forms the border with Spain to the east, but also by other watercourses, with particular emphasis on the Asseca, Alcaide, and Lucefécit streams. With gentle relief, Alandroal preserves typical cerrado landscapes of the region, well-preserved, productive, and providing spaces for the grazing of native species. Alandroal is a land of legends and traditions, of a long history that crosses peoples and cultures, of mythical smugglers' routes, of monumental and cultural heritage, of memories, but also of space and wide horizons. But the municipality of Alandroal is much more than the vast heritage already presented, possessing a natural landscape, provided by the river and extensive fields as far as the eye can see, with incredible characteristics and potential that can be explored with the marking of pedestrian routes, birdwatching, stargazing integrating the Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve, etc.

The municipality of Alandroal is investing in sustainable and quality tourism, with a concerted strategy focused on the tourist and/or visitor, combining its responsibilities as an entity that provides a quality public service, with the promotion of equality policies, with special emphasis on the implementation of measures that lead to the reduction and elimination of barriers between citizens and visitors in all areas of its competence, from education to transport, including the built heritage of the municipality, giving special attention to its accessibility and enjoyment by all. A nautical offering that provides a quality experience, allowing Alandroal to be promoted as a nautical tourism destination nationally and internationally, is the next step in the ongoing strategy, which begins with the AZENHAS D’EL REI RECREATIONAL AREA and the ALANDROAL NAUTICAL STATION.

The enhancement of the Alandroal Nautical Station is based not only on the range of nautical products offered (sailing; diving with or without support; sport and recreational fishing; boat trips; nautical charters with or without crew and cruises; kayaking; stand-up paddleboarding; canoeing; rowing; water skiing; motorboating; bathing activities; onboard gastronomic programs, among others), but also on the tourism development and promotion strategy that focuses on the integrated promotion of the municipality and the Alqueva region, which is currently the main driver of tourism development in the region.
