Hero Background

Carregal do Sal Nautical Station

The Nautical Stations are the result of an initiative developed within the framework of Fórum Oceano and integrated into the Portugal Náutico project, which benefits from the experience of FEDETON – Fédération Européenne de Destinations Touristiques Nautiques, the managing entity of the international network of nautical stations.

Although this initiative may be immediately associated with coastal destinations, it is also a fact that inland territories there are excellent conditions to take advantage of local water resources, thus constituting a unique opportunity to contribute to a new configuration of the tourism offer in these inland territories.

Carregal do Sal could, therefore, design a structured offer based on a range of sports and leisure activities, such as canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, rowing, sailing, triathlon, whitewater rafting, fishing competitions, hiking and other water activities. These experiences can complement other tourist assets, such as archaeological, architectural, and religious heritage, archaeological circuits and heritage routes, museums and museum centers, pillories and other monuments of tourist interest, leisure areas, gastronomy, wines, olive oil, and traditional sweets.

The Nautical Stations aim to bring together a set of local and regional entities identified with a territory, involving local administrations, regional and local tourism entities, associations, clubs, tour operators, accommodation and catering establishments, among others, duly organized in a protocol network and following a program of activities validated by all.

The Nautical Station thus constitutes an interaction platform with the objective of promoting cooperation in a given territory between the Municipality and tourism companies, between the public and private sectors, and between local communities and visitors and tourists.

Objectives of the Nautical Station:

  • Promotion of Natural and Cultural Resources Linked to Water
  • Development of an Integrated Tourism Offer
  • Enhancement and Qualification of Nautical Activities
  • Strengthening Communication and Promotion of the Destination
