Castelo Branco Nautical Station

A Nautical Station is an organized set of tourist services linked to nautical activities, as well as other local services, valuing natural resources, with the aim of attracting visitors to the region. Although associated with the coast, inland Nautical Stations have the capacity to provide countless experiences due to their natural, scenic, historical, and cultural richness.

At the Lentiscais quay, the richness of its natural landscape is intrinsically linked to water, both by the presence of the Ponsul River and the Tagus River. Located within the protected area of ​​the International Tagus Natural Park and the International Tagus Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, classified by UNESCO, this place is an example where biodiversity and geodiversity combine harmoniously. This scenario favors the creation of a sustainable ecosystem, with environmental responsibility and capable of providing unique and authentic nautical experiences throughout the year.

On May 19, 2025, the Municipality of Castelo Branco presented the Partnership Protocol for the certification of the Castelo Branco Nautical Station, located on the Ponsul River, in the village of Lentiscais. This initiative is part of the application to the PROVERE program “Inland Nautical Tourism in Central Portugal”, led by CIMBSE.

The application for certification of the Castelo Branco Nautical Station was submitted to the Ocean Forum and is the result of a locally coordinated strategy. The objective is to promote Castelo Branco as a nautical tourism destination for inland waters, coordinated by the Municipality of Castelo Branco, in collaboration with public and private partners, focusing on diversifying the offer, combating seasonality, extending the average length of stay, and increasing tourism revenue.
