Hero Background

In the Évora district, the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz stands out. Its setting within the magnificent Alentejo plains and the blue waters of the Alqueva reservoir make it a leading tourist destination in the region.

Bordered by the municipalities of Redondo and Alandroal to the north, Mourão to the east, Moura and Portel to the south, and Évora to the west, the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz is situated in a predominantly agricultural region, which shapes the way of life linked to land exploitation – essentially extensive agriculture of cereals, olive growing, and vineyards.

The climate, typically Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and short, rainy winters, marks the vegetation, fauna, landscape, as well as the people of this region.

Reguengos de Monsaraz offers exceptional environmental conditions, inviting the enjoyment of outdoor activities in contact with nature, such as boat trips, walks or horseback riding along dirt paths, hunting, fishing…

Here you can also enjoy a journey through time by wandering through the historic medieval village of Monsaraz and visiting the various archaeological remains of megalithic monuments throughout the municipality. Located particularly in the parish of Monsaraz, some of them are worthy of European recognition.

In addition to a rich historical heritage and an exquisite landscape, the municipality possesses a strong identity marked by traditional customs and traditions, reflected in its gastronomy, wines and crafts, notably São Pedro do Corval, the largest pottery center in Portugal.

The Monsaraz Nautical Station, certified on February 27, 2020, is a network offering high-quality nautical tourism, organized through the integrated enhancement of nautical resources present in the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz.
