Hero Background

Infante D. Henrique Naval Club

The Infante D. Henrique Naval Club, founded on July 4, 1925, in the parish of Valbom, municipality of Gondomar, was born from the initiative of a group of nautical sportsmen led by Manuel Santos Almeida Bessa, Américo Pinto Soares, and Américo Pereira. Its patron is Infante D. Henrique, and it adopts the Cross of Christ as its symbol, present on the white shirts with red and blue stripes worn by its athletes.

Rowing was the founding sport and continues to be the club's main activity, along with swimming and water polo in its early years. Over time, the club expanded its eclecticism to other sports, such as basketball, sport fishing, and table tennis. In the 1960s, rowing reached a level of national excellence, the result of structured work and the modernization of equipment, with the support of public and private entities.

With around 500 members and approximately 250 rowing athletes—male and female, in all categories—the club maintains a Rowing School focused on training young people from the municipality. Recognized as a Public Utility Institution since 1981 and distinguished with Medals of Sporting Merit, the Clube Naval Infante D. Henrique aims to modernize its infrastructure through the construction of a new sports complex in Gramido, reinforcing its social, cultural, and sporting role in Gondomar.
