Relic - Life from the Industrial Origins of Matosinhos
For much of the 20th century, the southern area of Matosinhos was a vast and concentrated industrial park, dominated by fish canning factories: nearly fifty! One of the sector's historic companies, "Fábrica de Conservas Pinhais & Cª, Ldª," founded in 1920, moved its facilities to this location shortly after, in 1923. And here it built one of the most beautiful industrial buildings in the region, which remains in operation to this day.
Considered by some as "the Rolls-Royce of canned goods," Pinhais continues to produce canned goods (primarily sardines) using its own traditional and artisanal method. Virtually all of its production is destined for export to international markets.
In the heart of Matosinhos, Pinhais is an unavoidable element of the Portuguese canning industry and a world reference in the sector. As our customers tell us, "The best sardines in the world."
