The Western Nautical Station encompasses the municipalities of the Western sub-region of Portugal (Alcobaça, Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, Lourinhã, Óbidos, Nazaré, Peniche, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Torres Vedras). In this territory, with over 350,000 inhabitants and an area of approximately 2,500 km², you can find more than 90 km of coastline, in addition to the Óbidos Lagoon (mouth of the Arelho River), which is the most extensive coastal lagoon system on the Portuguese coast and has a total area of approximately 6.9 km².
The Western region of Portugal is characterized by its abundance of unique landscapes and multiple tourist offerings, including nautical and sports tourism, the sun of the Atlantic and lake beaches, nature, cultural and scenic tourism. Surfing, beaches, monumental heritage, and geology make tourism an important economic activity in the region.
The Nautical Station constitutes a formal network of entities, with the objective of promoting cooperation between municipalities, other local authorities, nautical tourism sector associations, nautical service companies, and tourism product and service companies.
