Moura-Alqueva Nautical Station

Lake Alqueva, with its valuable natural, scenic, and cultural heritage, offers privileged conditions for the practice and development of nautical activities associated with tourism and sport.

The Moura-Alqueva Nautical Station, coordinated by the Municipality of Moura, partners with public and private entities and prioritizes participation in regional and national actions of the Portuguese Nautical Station network, as well as cooperation with local and regional stakeholders in the design of products that symbolize nautical activity in the region.

The Moura-Alqueva Nautical Station, certified by the Ocean Forum Association as a Nautical Station of Portugal, aims to promote a network of joint action that consolidates the competencies of the municipality of Moura in the nautical sector, building a competitive and innovative offer of products and services that meet the new challenges of the market. The infrastructure and equipment that make up EN's offering are subdivided into the following nautical spots:

• Moura-Alqueva Nautical Center
• Estrela - Riverside Village
• Cais da Barca
• Ardila Rowing Center

The municipality of Moura, with an area of ​​957.73 km2 in the far northeast of the Lower Alentejo, has 14,080 inhabitants (Annual Estimates, INE 2016), distributed across five parishes: Union of Parishes of Moura and Santo Amador, Amareleja, Póvoa de São Miguel, Union of Parishes of Safara and Santo Aleixo da Restauração and Sobral da Adiça. Its inland location and proximity to Spain give it its own cultural identity, marked by strong social, economic and cultural ties with the neighboring country. With its history, traditions, and significant natural and cultural heritage, the municipality of Moura possesses tourism resources that can be leveraged in a development strategy capable of attracting national and international audiences.

Regarding historical resources, these represent a built cultural heritage of great interest, spanning various historical periods and encompassing different heritage elements, among which the two national monuments stand out: the Church of São João Batista in Moura and the Parish Church of Santo Aleixo.

The natural heritage, expressed in the beauty of the landscape, the fauna and flora, the existence of classified areas that are part of the Natura 2000 Network, and the Alqueva reservoir, presents important challenges in terms of its tourism exploitation and opens up numerous opportunities in the area of ​​economic development.
